Ivory Coast: Freedom for Assoa Adou (PCF- French Communist Party)

Assoa Adou, a leading figure of the Ivorian left, was arrested Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at his home by the armed forces of Alassane Ouattara regime. Important personality of the Ivorian Popular Front (FPI) and a man of peace and dialogue, he recently returned from exile. He is most likely in the premises of the Ivorian intelligent services, DST, in Abidjan. This arrest came on the eve of an important press conference of the leadership of his party to which he was to participate. Once again the Ivorian regime is using repression, arbitrariness and intimidation against democrats, political leaders, trade unionists and the civil society as a way of exercising power and control. These methods show some anxieties. The denial of the most basic rights, the impunity are not acceptable.

The French Communist Party calls for the immediate release of Assoa Adou and all political prisoners and demands the end of victor's justice in Cote d’Ivoire. It also urges that conditions be created for the thousands of Ivorians still in exile to return safely to their country. This requirement should be that of France.
